for the love of the blog
February 22, 2011
These days, it seems like self-expression is more efficiently achieved through the infinite medium of the Internet than any other form. Regardless of the impending internet death, more and more people are finding a creative outlet in the form of blogging. Interests, inspirations, tastes and email addresses are all on display (as is ENDLESS cat paraphernalia); personalities now have the opportunity to go viral, for better or for worse. As a result, blogs are no longer associated with that weird gamer guy who posts videos of himself playing World of Warcraft, but rather with fashion/music/art-loving hipsters. 21st century win!
It’s an understatement to suggest that these blogs, these cyber-self-expression portals, are now becoming extremely fashionable.Tumblr alone has over nine million users an attracts 47 million visitors per month. All this traffic makes Tumblr a perfect candidate to be used as a blank canvas for brands looking to increase their presence through visual mediums. Trawling through Tumblr, you’ll find fashion blogs from Oscar De La Renta, Alexander McQueen, Kate Spade and Valentino — and that’s just to name a few. Searching for ‘fashion’ in the Tumblr directory will leave you with enough deliciously desirable fashion blogs to have you coveting for eternity.

Leading the fashionable charge and spurring the budding relationship between fashion and technology is Rich Tong, Tumblr’s Fashion Director (yes, they have one). To propel Tumblr’s movement towards the delectable world of fashion, Tong sent 20 of Tumblr’s top fashion bloggers to document New York Fashion Week, with the aim of raising the profiles of their personal blogs and, on a larger scale, the entire Tumblr realm.. The bloggers were in for one helluva holiday, with complimentary flights and accommodation, meetings with designers and brand executives and VIP access to several of the NYFW fashion shows. Tough life.
Excuse me while I go create a domain name.
